Masterpiece

Sunday, January 30, 2011

When I was in the 4th grade I wrote a report on Louis Pasteur.  I also drew a portrait of Mr. Pasteur.  I got a B.  I'm surprised I scored that well.

Retro

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

I was looking through my Senior Class memory book and look what I found....a picture of me and my prom date.  I bet I'm one of the few people that actually still talks to their prom date.  I LOVE her.  The back of the picture says that it was taken by our friend Deanna.  Christy & I actually rented a limo with our friend Karen and her date Robert.  We had a great time and were all in bed at my house by midnight.  YES, by midnight.
I also found a picture frame with all of the suspects that I mentioned above:
Clockwise from top left:
Karen & her prom date Robert.
Karen & ME in our cap & gown.
Deanna and her first love, Jared.

Deanna

I'm actually still in close contact with everyone in this picture frame.  Well, except for the boys. Oh and for anyone who is wondering....Class of '91.

After reading this post again...I realized that I said the word "actually" like 15 times.  Maybe I should have said, "totally".

Why Julie is Nervous

Scott...
is painting in the stairwell to the basement.
Greta is always curious...
Julie will be thankful when this part is over!

Random Photo of Greta

Friday, January 14, 2011

Because I know who the star of this blog really is, I've decided to post a random photo of Greta every week.  Poor kitty, she just might be the most photographed cat on the planet.  Now that Sadie is gone, Greta gets ALL of Julie's camera attention around the house.  The Queen herself is sitting beside me as I type this post.  Here's week #1 photo...

Snow Day....The Sequel

Monday, January 10, 2011

It's not every year that we get snow in these parts and it is really unusual for us to get TWO snows in one season.  This morning my alarm clock woke me to the sounds of the news lady saying, "School is out everywhere in our area".  I raised up my head, looked outside, and then I went back to sleep.  There was no work for Julie today.  On the other hand, it was just another day for Scott & Greta. (Scott works from home.)
I wandered outside with my camera to snap some (not blue) snow pictures.  Here's the house all covered with snow:
Then I kept on walking and took some pictures of my parents' house, Kevin's house, and Sophie dog in the snow.  Before I knew it ....there was someone watching me.
So I went inside and played with the kids for a couple of hours.
Sophie waited patiently outside the door...
Of course Nana and Papaw came over to play with us too...
When I went got back to my house, Scott was making snow cream...
It was YUMMY.  We added chocolate syrup to the top and it was even YUMMIER.
Then I decided to grab my new zoom lens and take some pictures of the birds at my bird feeder.  They seemed very happy to have food because they kept the feeder extra busy today.  I was lucky enough to get a lot of good photos but I'll only post a few (for now).
You can click on the pictures if you'd like a better view...
In case you are wondering, I did NOT enhance the color of the cardinal.  This is exactly how brilliant red he was.
After "shooting" some birds, Scott and I played ping-pong.  Tonight, the whole family walked over to Kevin & Rana's for dinner.  Rana made something very delicious...it was Syrian so I'm not sure what it was called.  I took a great photo of it, only to be reminded by my camera that I forgot to put a "card" in it.  So, no pictures from tonight.

It was a wonderful snow day however, I am not looking forward to the ice that will follow tomorrow!

Hello 2011; but first...

Saturday, January 1, 2011

Goodbye 2010.  It was the coldest December on record where I live so when I walked outside and realized that it was rather warmish yesterday, I jumped at the chance to try out my new zoom lens.  Here it is...
After seeing numerous birds yesterday morning...of course....I couldn't find one single bird the whole time I was outside.  I waited and waited and this is all I got...
Nothing. There are bluebirds in that tree.  I saw one fly in the hole while I was setting up my camera.  Thanks to my new zoom lens...I'm actually far away from the tree.  I didn't get to "shoot" any birds but I enjoyed my time outside enjoying nature and thanking God for a wonderful 2010.

Last night, we went to Uncle Ken's house to spend time with Ken and our friends Eric, Michael, Jill and the dogs.  Here's Ken.  He invited us over and then napped with Saraya the whole time.
Not really.  :-)  Here's a picture of Ken feeding Frosted Mini Wheats to Steely Dan, Bailey & Saraya.  Notice how attentive they are...
This is Michael, Jill & Bailey...
Jill is brushing Steely Dan. Notice how much he LOVES being brushed.
Here's our girl Saraya again.  (Michael is in the background.)
Sleepy Steely....
Hungry Bailey (Eric is in the background)
Happy Julie with Saraya the lap dog...
What a great way to say goodbye to a great year.  Thanks again to Michael for answering all of my photography questions.  I learned more last night than I've learned all year.  Happy 2011 to everybody!!!
