Sticky Situation
Monday, January 30, 2012
This morning I had my yearly physical. Everything went great until time for me to have blood drawn because the lab technician couldn't get my veins to cooperate. After a very tiring situation, I was told that they were "not allowed to stick me anymore" and that I have to come back tomorrow. I'm not sure what will be different tomorrow. #blah

Greta is a very affectionate cat. If we are home, Greta is with one of us. Every night she likes to sit on Scott's shoulder. Here are a few pictures I took last week. (Note that Scott is on his laptop in all of the pictures!)
Another night:
Notice how interested she is in what Scott is doing here:

She really does "own" us:
The next night....hugs and kisses.
"She thinks she's people."

Last night, Christy and I went to the Charlotte Checkers game.

As you can see, we were right behind the visiting team's bench.
We had an awesome time! We missed you Sandra!

Last month I ordered a scarf from Checkers Hockey. It arrived along with 2 free tickets to today's Checkers' game. I invited my sister-in-law, Rana, to go with me. Rana is from Syria. She quickly informed me that there is "no such game" where she comes from. She was to be the first in her family to enjoy a hockey game.
We took the Blue Line to the game and had a blast. Here's Rana:
Sorry for the blurry picture. That comes from having a dumb ol' hand tremor. Here are a couple of pictures from the game.
We had a great afternoon in spite of some very obnoxious Detroit Red Wings fans that gave a very loud, running commentary of how bad they thought the Checkers were (despite the fact that they are #1 in the league) and that they were also a "bunch of rednecks". The Checkers are the AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes and they were playing the Grand Rapids Griffins which are the AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. The highlight of my evening was when the Checkers scored their final goal which sealed the win. I turned to one of the obnoxious fans and said with a gentle smile, "What happened?" Thankfully he did not reply back to me!

Well, I can't really say it was lazy....between a haircut, a meeting at church, and then Saturday night worship service....I was running around all day. In between all of that, I managed to spend some time at mom & dad's house. Here's a picture of my dad taking a dent out of his truck...
No Contest. Five Guys wins!
We've yet to have any Winter weather here in the South so far this year. Yesterday, it was sunny and almost 70 degrees. While playing in the woods with Sophie, I found these Daffodils (or Jonquil). One had already bloomed and the other is getting ready to...
After worship service, Scott & I decided to go to Smashburger for dinner.
I have to say that Smashburger was pretty fantastic. HOWEVER, contrary to what my awesome friend Megan says....I can't quite call it "heaven on earth". My burger was perfect, and the menu was pretty diverse, but their fries can't hold a candle to Five Guys. In a contest between Smashburger & Five Guys....I'm gonna say...No Contest. Five Guys wins!

Scott and I said goodbye to 2011 by spending time with some people (and canines) we love very much but we don't get to see near as often as we would like. We always enjoy visiting Uncle Ken, but this time we got to visit Uncle Ken, Scott's brother Will, and the Funderburke family!
Here is a picture of the Funderburke family that I stole from their 2011 Christmas card.
L to R: Saraya, Michael, Jill, Steely Dan & Bailey. You may remember the dogs from my post about their famous annual calendar. Saraya is a Great Pyrenees just like our Sadie was. Steely & Bailey are Golden Retrievers. Here are some pictures that I took on Friday night:
Steely Dan has his own spot on Uncle Ken's couch:
Life is so hard.

We had a great night with Ken, Will & all of the Funderburke family. I hope I don't have to wait until next Christmas season do to it again.
Last night, Scott and I spent New Year's Eve with Grandmother Lanford. Here she is celebrating Scott's win at the board game, Aggravation.
After a fun night with grandma, we finished the night by watching The Big Bang Theory marathon on TBS. And yes, I did fall asleep before midnight.
