Weekend Wrap-Up

Sunday, February 27, 2011

Julie had a wonderfully busy weekend!  Yesterday kicked off Love Week 2011 at our church.  This year, they have invited over 25 churches to help us reach our goal of 25,000 hours of community service.  On Saturday, my egroup (small group Bible study) volunteered at a local inner city school.  50 people had signed up but almost 100 people showed up to help out!!!  Here are a couple of pictures of the first project that I worked on....

First, we spread new mulch on their playground.  Then I moved on to working on the landscaping in front of the school.  Next, we went to the library to help the teachers get their test papers ready.  There were so many different projects at this school to choose from.  I had a wonderful day getting to know my new friends better.  Afterwards, we stopped at Bob Evans for lunch.  Or should I say breakfast...(we all ate breakfast items!)

90% of the students at this particular school are on free lunch.  The principal told us that most kids speak English as a second language.  He also said that he has quite a few students that live in their cars.  It was heartbreaking to hear that.  He explained to us that there is no PTA at this school therefore many of the basic things that we were working on yesterday...never get done.

Since today was such a beautiful and warm day (the thermometer said 84)..we decided to take Laura & Daniel to a local elemenatray school to play on the playground...
And here's Nana teaching Daniel how to hoola hoop:
It was a great weekend.  Now it's time to start a brand new week!

Mom's Birthday!

Monday, February 21, 2011

Today is mom's birthday.  The entire gang went to Olive Garden in celebration.  Mmmm good.  Afterwards, we came back to mom's house and showered her with purses.  Ooops!  Thankfully, we all chose different colored purses.
Happy Birthday Mom!  You're the best!

Happy Valentine's Day Scott!

Sunday, February 13, 2011

In honor of Valentine's Day tomorrow, Holly Furtick (wife of Elevation Church pastor Steven Furtick) posted on her blog last week some of the things she loved most about her husband.  I thought that was a great idea so I decided to do it myself:

I love how smart Scott is!

I often tell Scott that when he sets his mind to something, there isn't much he couldn't do.

I love how he spends so much time researching every little thing.

I love the way he cooks!

I love how he loves nerdy "space" shows and movies.

I love the way he takes care of me and everything else around the house.

I love how he puts up with me and never complains (that I know of)!

I love the way he loves our pets. (It's so cute!)

But, most importantly,
I love how much he loves Jesus.

This is a very condensed list but I may add some more to it later.   Tomorrow I will post a list of all of the things that I don't like about Scott....(just kidding)  :-)

Super Bowl

Sunday, February 6, 2011

It's Super Bowl Sunday again and Scott has invited the usual suspects over ....family & a friend.  Here's a picture of Dad and Uncle Ken watching the game on the big screen:
And here's a picture of the game on the big screen (that's Dad's hair in the bottom left corner):
And here's a picture of Greta in the sunshine:
Sorry, I just had to throw in a picture of Greta.  Greta was just as excited as I was to see the sunshine today.  I am so happy that we had another mild day to sit outside and enjoy.
This past week has been a rather tough week for me and my family.  I have 2 Uncles and an Aunt in the hospital.  Please pray for my Uncle Dick, Uncle Coy and especially for Aunt Faye who is not doing as well as we would like.  I am hoping that this week will be a much brighter week.

We did have a little family fun this week.  My cousin Annette and I started an email called "If Grandma was on twitter".  Some of the cousins and I sent "tweets" that we thought our Grandma might send.  If Grandma was alive today she would be 112ish so you can guess the fun we had.  We all love her and miss her very much although I think she would probably have a few words for us after all of the "tweeting" we did for her.  Have a great day!
