The Nutcracker Suite

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

Driving home from work today, I heard a commercial that said, "Tis the season for America's favorite ballet....The Nutcracker Suite".  Well, I hate the Nutcracker Suite.  Not only do I hate The Nutrcracker Suite ballet, but I hate "nutcrackers" even more.  They are creepy.  One of the families that I used to be a nanny for had a collection of creepy Christmas nutcrackers.  Every Christmas I had to deal with having those blame creepy faces staring at me.  Heaven forbid I have to go to a ballet and look at a bunch of men in tights dressed up like creepy Nutcrackers and dancing around like a bunch of girls.  Namaste.

  1. Julie, Julie, Julie... You need to expand your horizons and see the Nutcracker Ballet. There is only one Nutcracker, and he's really a handsome prince underneath. The truly scary one is the Mouse King, but the Nutcracker prince vanquishes him and everyone dances happily ever after.

The male ballet dancers don't dance like girls. When they are not partnering the ballerinas, their dancing displays vigorous athleticism. Sort of like gymnastics set to the music of Tchaikovsky.

  2. Sorry Lorraine....I've seen it. I saw the North Carolina Dance Theater perform it live and I've watched the San Francisco Ballet perform it on tv. I still hated it. :-) Oh and don't forget the movie version with MacCauley Culkin. heehee

  3. LOL, well tell us how you really feel, Julie! ;-)
I took my girls to see the YMCA's production last year because a little friend of ours was dancing in it. We really enjoyed it, although it got a bit long in some parts...for the most part the girls were mesmerized!
