Spring is here and all is right in Julie's world again. The days are long, the weather is warm and everything is starting to bloom.
This week, my hormones threw up on my face and I had a giant acne cyst all week. I took this picture when the worst had passed and it was on the way out. (Picture it much redder; my phone takes the red out of pictures.)
Friday, I told my boss that I thought my cyst was starting to look better. He said, "Yeah right. It went from Mt. Everest to Mt. Saint Helens!"
Earlier this week, Kevin took Daniel to Petco. Daniel has been obsessed (and I mean OBSESSED) with hamsters for several years. (Remember his Halloween costume last year?) He randomly says the word "hamster" numerous times every day. Case in point, I ran into Daniel's Children's Church teacher at work a couple of weeks ago. I asked him how Daniel was in class the day before...
Teacher: Daniel was good except he kept randomly blurting out a word during class.
Me: Was that word "hamster"?
Teacher: Yes!
Check out the little guy...
Saturday, Daniel competed in the Boy Scouts' Grand Prix. He came in 3rd place out of 30+ boys.
Enjoying the warm Saturday night.
I asked Daniel what he was doing and he told me he was putting lights in the ground...
He wasn't kidding.
Mom and Dad wanted to eat at Hickory Tavern on Saturday night so I went out with my two favorite parents.
They both ordered salads for dinner and shared a brownie/ice cream dessert.
My sweet Laura in class today.
Balto is having another battle with skin allergies. He has a spot over his tail that is bothering him. Scott took him to the vet yesterday and he gave Balto a bottle of prednisone to heal his sores. He will start on allergy medicine when his steroid runs out.
Sunday night (tonight), we had a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at church for our youth group. The money is to help the teens pay for summer camps and their summer mission trip. This summer, they are helping out in Maine. The fellowship hall was decorated as an Italian restaurant and the youth were our wait staff. The teens dressed in black and white and wore bow ties. I sat with my very special friend Alexandra. Alex really enjoyed her spaghetti and, she even won a door prize.
It's March Madness time which is a big deal in North Carolina. Mom made breakfast for supper on Friday night and Dad had to eat his in front of the television so he could watch the Duke Blue Devils play.
Today (Sunday), Mom, Dad and I watched the Tar Heels play.
Garden Update
Last week, Scott worked on cutting and treating the lumber. Today, he finished building the (2) containers. This week, we are receiving a load of soil and Scott is going to build the fence around the
containers. Meanwhile, I've been watching Youtube videos on how to grow vegetables. Scott said that I better grow some "fantastic vegetables" for the amount of money that we have put into my containers! I told him that I am hoping to grow enough to share with everyone. He said, "For a price. That's how we are going to make our money back." Ha! (Yes, he is teasing.)
The containers are 4' x 8' and a little over 2 feet tall. I have to admit I'm a little nervous about how this is going to go. I'm not usually very good at things and I can't imagine that growing vegetables will be any different. If anyone is reading this blog, I may ask you for advice in the weeks to come!
Until next time...
Wish I could provide practical help with your garden, but you know me, I just look at a plant and it wilts and dies. Green things don't like me. Are you sure that's a hamster Daniel is posing with? It looks a little like Disney's Ratatouille. Love the zit. Okay, "cyst". There's nothing more embarrassing for a grown woman than a teenage skin eruption. Your boss is a real sweetheart, isn't he? Mt. St. Helens indeed. I love that you're putting in gardens and we just got another 12 inches or so of snow. It was gorgeous--I wish I had taken pictures--but thankfully it's melting.
