Hilton Head Island Getaway

Thursday, September 12, 2019

Last Thursday, Blossom had her first therapy session at Vet Rec.  She has another session today.  My next post will be pictures and a video from her hydro and laser therapies.

Scott and I took Mom and Dad for a quick getaway to Hilton Head Island, SC this week.  We try to visit HHI every few years but, it had been a long time since we had been with my parents.

Our favorite hotel on Hilton Head is the Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort.  We like to stay in the oceanfront suites due to their views, size and their large balconies.

Mom and Dad's suite overlooked the adult swimming pool.

Our room had a view overlooking the resort pool.

The third pool, in the back, is the "family" pool.  Scott explained to me that meant it was alcohol free.    I couldn't crack that code on my own.

On the first night, we ate at The Crazy Crab.  We all thought the fried shrimp was some of the best we had ever eaten.  The shrimp was local and so very fresh!

The view from the dining room.

Moonlight on the ocean

Scott was totally relaxed.

I took all of the pictures with my phone.  This picture does not do the size or the color of the sunrise justice.  It was a giant, fiery red ball in the sky.  Much bigger and redder than this picture shows.  (Is redder a word?).

On our way to breakfast at the hotel restaurant.

Dad enjoyed his Belgian waffles with strawberries and whipped cream.

I made Scott pose for a picture.

Here I am documenting that I was on the trip also.

The humidity was almost unbearable and I felt so bad for my parents.  The air was so muggy that it was hard for them to breathe and they spent most of their time inside their hotel room.  That suited them just fine as they were just happy to have a change of scenery.

Monday, Scott and I had lunch at Coco's On the Beach.  It took us forever to find the restaurant and then we had to park a long distance away and walk across a boardwalk.  (Way too far to walk in that humidity!!!) On the way to the restaurant, I passed an alligator and saw a lot of beautiful birds but I was too sweaty to stop and take a picture.  I stole this one from the internet.

I got this one from the internet as well.

This one....I took myself!  There were people playing golf on the course behind Scott.  We saw so many people on golf courses and tennis courts while we there and I can't begin to imagine trying to play any sports in that humidity.

Mom enjoyed the view from her large balcony.

Scott and I swam in the pool below their room so that Mom could watch.  Here's Dad making faces at me.  He yelled down fake times to me while I was swimming laps.

I loved the colors in this photo.

Tuesday morning sunrise was not quite as exciting as the sun rose behind a cloud.

While I was waiting for the sun to rise, I found a shark's tooth.  I had found a sand dollar on the day before.

Breakfast on our final morning.  I had the breakfast buffet and it was so yummy.

What a great trip.  I always love visiting Hilton Head but I sure am happy to be home.

UPDATE:  I totally forgot to add pictures of dolphins.  I saw about 6 dolphins swimming downstream while I was waiting for the sunrise.  I believe that is called a "pod".  I'm no Einstein so I might be wrong....

  1. I'm so glad you were able to make the trip. I'm guessing you didn't get hit by the storm. A "feels like" temp of 107 would find me soaking in a tub full of ice cubes. The resort looks very comfortable but I like the beach scenes best, along with the sunrises. Yes, I believe redder is a word. Time to get ready for your next trip. :)
