Independence Day 2020 Style

Monday, July 6, 2020

While at my parents' house tonight, I noticed Mom was watching Christmas in July on the Hallmark Channel.  I guess we are halfway to Christmas now.

The Paw Patrol is always on duty at my house.

It is very rare for my mom to complain so when she allowed me to make a doctor's appointment for her on Tuesday, I knew something was going on.  The Dr said her vitamin D, thyroid and iron levels are very low and he sent us home with several prescriptions.  I asked him to take a look at her left hand.  He took one look and said, "OH SWEETHEART!" He said she has "contracture" of the tendons in that hand.  When he tried to open up her fingers he noticed that one of her fingernails had grown into her hand, digging a hole. Thankfully, it was not infected...yet.  We have an appointment with a hand therapist tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.  The hope is that she will be able to get her tendons unlocked enough to regain some mobility in that hand.  The doctor also ordered a home therapist to come to the house to work with her on her ability to get up and down.  She has a lot of work ahead of her to keep her mobile.

Wednesday:  Blossom's turn for therapy.

According to her report card, she had a great visit.  Her next visit is Wednesday (the day after tomorrow).  I don't know if it is helping her any at this point; however, it is the only hope we have.

Not long after I was admiring my biggest tomato to date, a squirrel took off with it.  I think Bill Murray has met his gopher.  I now have cages protecting my tomato plants!  Scott doesn't waste any time when it comes to solving problems.

Saturday, I took Balto to meet a new friend.  Meet Dori....

Dori belongs to my dear friend, Miranda.  You might remember Dori from another recent post.  She helped her mom deliver a pound cake to my dad for his birthday.

Miranda made this super cute t-shirt for me:

Kevin had minor foot surgery on Friday so he was unable to grill hamburgers for the 4th.  Rana stopped by Red Robin on her way home from work and invited us over to celebrate.   Scott was planning to come over; however, someone close by started shooting fireworks at 4:00 pm.  Our dogs immediately started to panic and Scott decided he better stay home with them.  This year, their Vet gave them a prescription for some good drugs from the people pharmacy.

Daniel bought and put these glasses on Laura.  In case you are wondering, she eats Klondike bars with a spoon.

The calm after the storm.  Way after...this picture was taken on the 5th.

I feel like someone needs a cross-stitch of this in their bathroom:

Have a great week.

  1. Is that Dupuytren's contracture your Mom has? I knew someone years ago with that problem. As I recall it required surgery. Hope your Mom gets it fixed because it won't fix itself. I didn't know squirrels ate tomatoes. Good for Scott getting those cages around the plants. Love your tee shirt! People who shoot off fireworks in or near residential neighborhoods never think of the poor dogs. I had to let Truffles out of her crate and into my lap after someone walked down the street and let off a few mild pops. Oddly enough she had to go out after dark and didn't seem to mind some full-blown fireworks at a distance. Go figure.
