It is a good thing I'm not grading myself for my self-imposed challenge of posting every day this month!
Saturday, Christy and I went to the Sheep Dog Trials at Rural Hill Farm. These Shepherds are competing to go to the National Championships. I LOVE watching sheep dogs herd sheep and have been many times. I didn't take my "good" camera this year so you'll have to settle for not-as-great pictures from my phone.
If you see a black spot on the right side of my picture, that is the Border Collie herding the sheep to the Shepherd so that he can put them in the pen. Border Collie's are the most amazing dogs. I would love to have one but, I would have no business owning one because they need to work.
At the Sheep Dog Trials there are also Dock Diving Dog competitions, Agility, Frisbee, Flyball and other activities for dogs to compete in. That has developed over time though. The Shepherds are there for serious business.
Here's a picture of a dog in action in the Dock Diving Dogs competition.
Meet Fiona & her Scottish Highland Cattle family.
Her mom, Dolly...
Fiona's dad, Bubba, and her bother, Davidson, are in the background. Fiona was not happy to hear that she is probably going to be bred.
I came home to these lazy dogs....they need a job.
I love watching sheep dog trials. When I lived in Pennsylvania I used to go to as many Highland games as I could. There were 3 within an easy drive from me. The sheep dog trials were always a highlight. You're absolutely right--those dogs have to work. That makes it a job of work for the owner/trainer, too. Unfortunately, I don't think your two dogs were bred to get excited at the sight of sheep. :)
