I can't believe Monday is almost here again. This is a recap of my weekend...
Check out this cute boy:
Daniel enjoyed the almost 80 degree weather on Saturday with a freeze pop. He dropped a piece of his pop so he put it on the top of an ant hill. He said he was "giving the ants a gift because they love sugar. " We went back later to see if they had enjoyed their present.
For Christmas, I asked Scott's mom for a badminton set. Yesterday, Kevin and I put it up in his back yard. Daniel said, "I never knew I wanted one of these until this very moment! This is a great day!" Kevin and I had fun playing each other after we set it up. We quickly realized how out of shape we both really are.
Mom and Daniel walked over to see my new gardening containers. Scott let Daniel help him put a few final touches on the boxes.
Scott also let Daniel pressure wash the concrete section of our driveway. This was an extra special treat for him because he is obsessed with water spigots and garden hoses. He has quite a list of things he is fascinated by to include lightbulbs of course.
Sunday:
Laura is watching the "Good Morning" song by The Kiboomers. For some reason, that song makes her so happy. She also sang "The Wheels on the Bus" for about 15 minutes without stopping. The verses didn't quite make sense to me but, I'm sure they did for her. "The doors on the bus go wah-e-wah..."
This afternoon, we all played Badminton. Even Dad got in on the fun.
Daniel's ADHD keeps him from being the most ideal teammate. Everything is a distraction. Once the cat came over I lost my teammate for good. Today, Daniel asked me if he was the funniest boy I had ever met. I told him no. He said, "Daniel sad". After eating a giant cookie with cream he asked me if he could have a cupcake. I told him no. He said, "Daniel sad". I think I'm going to start saying "Julie sad" when I don't get what I want.
I can't tell you how good it was to see Dad wanting to play. Some of my favorite childhood memories are tagging along with Dad and watching him compete in tennis tournaments. He spent many nights at the local swim club either practicing or playing matches. Dad is a natural at badminton, however, he is a little wobbly these days and has a tendency to fall. I held my breath every time he reached for the shuttlecock or bent over to pick it up. He has a June appointment with a neurologist to get checked out.
It was very windy today so the conditions were less than ideal but, I really think that we will have some quality family fun with our badminton set this year. If only we had a pool.
Dad joke for the day:
I've said before that I can almost see the state line from my house. We live yards from the state line near a community called Indian Land, SC. Indian Land used to be a very, very small community until Charlotte swallowed it up recently. Now, restaurants and shops are going up everywhere. This is bittersweet to us.
The other night, I had taken Mom and Dad to eat at Hickory Tavern in Indian Land. After our meal, I stopped at QT for gas. Dad said, "They have an Outback in Indian Land now". I was very excited because this is one of my parents favorites restaurants and that would mean that they could go more often and without me having to worry about them driving in heavy traffic. I said, "Where is it?" Dad said, "Over there". I looked at the pump next to me and there was a Subaru Outback. (Insert eye roll here).
I hope you had a great weekend! Tomorrow is Monday. Julie sad.
Outback in Indian Land: Did not see that coming. :D Did the ants enjoy their present? You didn't say. I pestered my folks for a badminton set when I was young. I can't remember for sure if they got me one, but if they did it didn't get much use. I had no siblings and my folks refused to play. :( Unlike tennis balls, shuttlecocks don't come back to you if you bat them against a wall.
