Last month I ordered a scarf from Checkers Hockey. It arrived along with 2 free tickets to today's Checkers' game. I invited my sister-in-law, Rana, to go with me. Rana is from Syria. She quickly informed me that there is "no such game" where she comes from. She was to be the first in her family to enjoy a hockey game.
We took the Blue Line to the game and had a blast. Here's Rana:
Sorry for the blurry picture. That comes from having a dumb ol' hand tremor. Here are a couple of pictures from the game.
We had a great afternoon in spite of some very obnoxious Detroit Red Wings fans that gave a very loud, running commentary of how bad they thought the Checkers were (despite the fact that they are #1 in the league) and that they were also a "bunch of rednecks". The Checkers are the AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes and they were playing the Grand Rapids Griffins which are the AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. The highlight of my evening was when the Checkers scored their final goal which sealed the win. I turned to one of the obnoxious fans and said with a gentle smile, "What happened?" Thankfully he did not reply back to me!

You've got to wonder about fans of the "guest" team who sit there and loudly dis the "home" team at a game. Don't they realize they are most likely surrounded by fans of the home team?
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Checkers!
