Ketchup

Well, it has been a while since my last post so I will catch you up.  Currently, my Dad is back in the hospital.  He went out to eat Wednesday night and was fine, but on Thursday he was a totally different person.  He had no strength at all to get around or even sit up. I wasn't sure if he had a stroke or just what was going on.  Long story short, the paramedics came and he is back in the hospital.  He has a very bad UTI but they also said his heart was doing "funky things".  It seems now that they are leaning more towards it was the infection that caused the majority of his problem.

Here we are on Friday night watching The Masters.

Let me back up.  Easter weekend was wonderful.  On Good Friday, Mom and I went to Monroe, NC to visit her sister Ruby.  Aunt Ruby is 93 and is in an assisted living center.  I am kicking myself for not taking pictures.

On Saturday, Dad and Daniel hunted for Easter eggs.

Then Nana played a game with Daniel where you walked while carrying your egg in a spoon.

Daniel said, "I am really enjoying these Easter games".  I also heard him say several times, "I just don't know how this day could get any better".

Easter weekend was a really good weekend.

Today, I took Daniel to his very first Charlotte Hornets game.  Daniel isn't very athletic nor, does he know much about sports but, he had a great time.

We rode the light rail to the game.

Back to Dad.  Dad "wobbled" a little during his physical therapy, therefore, they are suggesting that he be released to a skilled care rehab for a few days.  The therapist told me that he is probably strong 98% of the time but she is concerned that he is going to fall during the 2% of time.

It is such a privilege to take care of aging parents, however, I'm getting to the point where every time the phone rings and I see it is my parents' number, I panic.  Can anyone relate to this?  Slowly, I'm learning to trust God more and to live in the moment.  If you start going down the "what if" rabbit trail then you can really come up with some catastrophic ridiculousness!  At least I can...

  1. The Easter egg hunt looks like fun. Daniel is growing into a fine looking young man. Did he and your Dad find all the eggs?
Sorry to hear your Dad is still having problems. That's scary. I took care of my Dad for the last few years of his life. It was great most of the time, but when his memory went downhill (he had dementia) it was very stressful. He'd get in his car (while I was at work) and drive until he ran out of gas. Then I'd have to go get him. The cops kept telling me to take away his car keys. Easy for them to say--they didn't have to deal with his tantrums.
