Doctor, Doctor

Tuesday, June 4, 2019

When we left Urgent Care on Friday, the P.A. stressed to us that if mom's hand started to swell or turn blue, we needed to go straight to an ER.  Sunday afternoon, her hand was very swollen and blue so....

The doctor in the ER took one look at Mom's splint and was not happy.  Apparently, her splint was put on incorrectly and could have caused serious problems.  Blood was pooling in her hand and causing severe swelling.  He could not believe that a physician's assistant approved the technician's work.

Poor Mom, there isn't much she can do with one hand.  We quickly realized that she was struggling to get up the steps to her door; it was very dangerous.  Scott jumped into action and put a rail up for her.

Everyone is helping out.  Daniel watered Nana's flowers.

The cat sat in the hole that Mom tripped in.

Today was "Doctor Day" for Mom and Dad.  Dad has had an appointment scheduled with a neurologist for several months and Mom was able to get an appointment with an orthopedic doctor.  Both appointments were for the same morning so  I went with Dad and Rana went with Mom.

Dad's appointment went well.  His cardiologist referred him to this neurologist to figure out why he gets dizzy and falls.   The neurologist ruled out anything neurological and determined the problem is  Orthostatic Hypotension.  Dad's blood pressure drastically changes when he is lying, sitting or standing.  Every time Dad stands up, his blood pressure drops, which causes him to get dizzy and sometimes even fall down.  The next step is back to the cardiologist to change his blood pressure medicine.

Rana sent this picture of Mom's arm after they took the temporary splint off.

Praise God, she does not need surgery!  Her arm is still too swollen to put on a "mold" cast.  She was given another temporary splint and I will take her back on Friday morning to get her new cast.  The plan is that she will wear a cast for 6 weeks.  Poor Mom.

I've been blessed to work for the most amazing and understanding boss in the world.  I really need another sibling that can help out.  I wonder if my parents would be interested in adopting another child.  I've told them..."ONE AT A TIME!  I can only take care of one of you at a time!"  They both agreed.

After a long night of helping my dad look around on Facebook and helping my mom order groceries online for pick up....I'm sleepy.

  1. Your poor Mom--that arm looks awful! It's a good thing she has her children living nearby to help her. Tell her from me to feel better soon!
