Dog-Gone Squirrels

Tuesday, June 25, 2019

Note:  I originally wrote this post on Sunday night but never posted it.

I just went to put some Nyjer seed in my Finch feeder and this is what I found....

I'm assuming that this is the work of some hungry squirrels.  I'm perplexed; they've never bothered it before but I did see one messing with it last week for the first time.  My poor, sweet, birdies.  UPDATE:  I went to the "bird store" today and they told me that there was no way that hole came from a squirrel.  They said that had to be the work of a raccoon.  I now have a new feeder that will allow my Goldfinches to eat upside down.  I can't wait to see this.  The shop owner told me that Goldfinches prefer to eat upside down.  Go figure.

It's Sunday night and I'm taking a moment to reflect over my week.  Thanks to my sister-in-law, I was able to spend an entire work week at the office.  Dad drove himself to see his primary care doctor on Wednesday, and Rana took Mom to see the orthopedic doctor on Friday.  The Ortho said that Mom's arm had shifted a little for the worse but they will respect her decision not to have surgery.  She is going to have physical therapy when her cast is removed.

Monday, the cat insisted that we hang out.  I was leaving Mom and Dad's house and he/she kept meowing at me very angrily and slapping my feet.  As soon as I would stop walking, it would lie down so I could pet it.   The poor cat was so lonely.

I love to take pictures of cats.

Dad had a doctor appointment on Wednesday.  He drove himself however, it turns out that he shouldn't have.  His blood pressure was really low and he almost needed help getting into the office.  He is really struggling with having low blood pressure when he stands up.  The doctor changed his medicine schedule but, so far, he isn't any better.  He was feeling better that night because he and Daniel had quite an aggressive wrestling match.  I am happy to say that Dad is still stronger than Daniel.

In this photo, Dad had asked Daniel how long he could hold the cane straight out from himself without having to lower it.

Dad is enjoying Facebook Marketplace.  It is so strange to see my Dad at the computer!  He even knows how to use a mouse now.

Our garden is not doing that well.  Scott tested the soil and supposedly it is pretty good.  He has gotten a quote from several tree companies to have 2 trees cut down that are blocking the morning sun.  He told me that the garden was getting very expensive.  I reminded him that while I really appreciate everything he has done, I only meant for him to build one small box.  UPDATE:  Scott put some MiracleGro on our plants and they have all grown quite a bit in several days.

Saturday, I took Mom to her hair appointment with Karen Lucas.

Dad had an appointment for a haircut with Karen later that morning.  As soon as I got home with Mom, Dad asked me if I could take him.  I knew he was not feeling well when he asked for help.

Saturday night, I went to a graduation party for my friend Shari Kisamore's daughter, Korie.  I didn't take a single picture!  I guess that means I was having too much fun.  As soon as Shari posts them on her Facebook page, I'm going to steal one and post it below.  And here it is....

L to R:  Shari, Me, Ronda, Yvette

I spent the afternoon with Mom, Dad, Daniel & Laura while Kevin took a 3 hour training for active shooter training at church.  Isn't is sad that we live in a society that now has to prepare for mass shootings?  And....who would have ever thought that my little country church would need to prepare for that possibility.

I wish you could hear the Barn Owl that is clearly very close by.....

  1. I've never seen damage like that to a bird feeder. Are you sure you don't have a bear? Granted the hole is a bit small for being a bear's work. That's an epic yawn on your first cat photo. Love it! It looks like the woman washing your Mom's hair is also on the phone. What ever happened to giving the customer your full attention? Re 3-hr active shooter training: Is this for dealing with a shooting as it happens or for helping the wounded until the EMTs get there? Either way, it's a sad commentary on the crazy times we live in.
