Christmas is over. I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. Is is ok to admit that?
We started off the week with Mom's cataract surgery. I can't tell you how glad I am that day is over.
After 4 hours of being at the surgery center, we were sent home (at 11:30 a.m.) and told to be at the doctor's office at 1:40 p.m. for her follow up appointment. There was absolutely no way we could make the drive home from uptown Charlotte and then make it back to Cotswold by 1:40. Did I mention the torrential rains (1 inch on Monday)? So....I took Mom to my office. We picked up Chick-Fil-A and watched the Hallmark Channel. This surgery left her much more groggy than the last one. Kevin and Daniel came by, picked up Mom, and took her to her appointment. I was able to spend the afternoon at the office and finish some much needed work. That was a nice surprise.
Mom gets too confused to keep all of her eye drops straight. Dad and I are giving them to her as best as we can. Dad is having a hard time keeping them all straight himself but, we have a list.
Our office was open until Noon on Christmas Eve. The weather outside was not frightful....sunny and 67 degrees. I made sure to sit outside with the dogs and get some much needed Vitamin D. I'm on cold #3 this winter and I'm so over it. I need to find balance in my life so I can take care of myself.
Mom and Kevin's family went to Christmas Eve Candlelight Service so Laura came over and hung out with Aunt Julie. Laura is not interested in sitting still or being quiet for a service so, we have our own tradition.
Christmas Day:
Scott's Grandmother had a snow village that had been put away in boxes for almost 30 years. I never met his Mamaw Beatty but, I think she would be proud to know her village was on display again.
Some random pictures from Christmas Day:
Note that Blossom is under the table. Balto came as soon as I sat down. We ate our entire meal with 2 giant dogs under the table....as usual.
I tried but, I couldn't fit us all in.
Laura looked at the camera!!!
Had to get both dogs in....
Scott's family came over. His Mom and her husband, Andy, are in town for a few days. Scott's Uncle, Ken, is in the yellow shirt. We drove to a couple of neighborhoods that really dress up for Christmas and ate leftover Honeybaked Ham and Cheesecake.
Oh, Scott made a Peppermint Pie. I don't "love" peppermint, I'll eat it, but I actually kind of liked this pie. It was really good. I was afraid it might taste like toothpaste. :-)
That was my Christmas Day. There was lots and lots of cleaning and stress and cooking and entertaining and now, it is back to work.

Lots of great Christmas photos. Looks like you had a perfect day. I need a poinsettia wreath; my front door is dark green, which doesn't lend itself to green wreaths. Why am I not surprised that your dogs sat out the meal under the table? That's the best place to get table scraps. If my dog doesn't do that, does it mean my scraps are unappetizing? Love seeing your Dad with his bobblehead. And you with your Bonjour Montreal tee shirt. I assume Scott's Peppermint Pie had a chocolate crust and a chocolate custard or pudding filling. I love peppermint bark candy...I never thought of baking a similarly flavored pie. Cool! Remember, it's not stress, it's excitement.
