Funday Monday

Tuesday, July 17, 2018

I went out on Monday night. (Surprising, I know!) My friend, Miranda, invited me to see Heather Land at Ovens Auditorium.  I had never heard of Heather Land in my entire life.  Turns out, I was in the minority.  When I googled Heather Land, her Facebook page popped up with over 2 million followers.  It even said that 22 of my Facebook friends were following her page.  Who knew?  Certainly not me.

Miranda, her friend Jackie (now my friend too), and I went to Lupie's Cafe for supper.  I had not eaten at Lupie's in...wait a minute....it was about 15 years ago after Scott had a colonoscopy.  He woke up, asked me how he had gotten dressed and said he wanted to go eat a chili dog at Lupie's.  I thought that was a rather risky thing to eat after his previous 2 days but, not MY colon.

Back to last night.  Here are the 3 of us at Lupie's Cafe.

And here we are waiting to see Heather perform.  She performed 2 hours of good "clean" comedy and we had a great time.  Just before intermission, Heather sat down at the piano and performed two songs that she had written.  We were blown away.  Not only were the songs she had written beautiful but her voice was amazing.  I could have listened to her perform her entire album.

The most interesting part of Heather's story was that last September (Seriously!!! I mean 2017!!!)  she was working at an office job.  She said that she spent part of her work day sending Snapchat videos to her friends.  Her friends started to share the videos and it wasn't long before she was contacted by a well-known blogger.  Susannah Lewis of Whoa! Susannah saw her videos and told her to make a Facebook Fan Page because she wanted to share one of Heather's videos.  Heather said that within a few hours her page had something around 450,000 likes.  Now she is on a 40 city tour selling out large venues.

Photo from the Internet.  I have no idea who to credit!

Side Note:  I'd say that 95% of the people at the show were women so, men, go at your own risk.

It was a great night and now I'm looking forward to an overnight trip with Miranda to see Jon Crist in September.  I don't follow a lot of comedians but Jon is my very favorite.

  1. Don't feel bad--I never heard of Heather Land either. In fact, when I first read the name I thought it was a place. Glad to hear she gave a good show.
