Photo Challenge Day 14

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

Slowly buy surely, I'm making progress.

I can't remember if I told you (and I'm too lazy to look back) but, Dad's pulse has been pretty low lately.  Last week at the Dr's office it was 44.  Dr. Cedarholm told us it should never be under 50 and we were to monitor it.  He even showed me how to take Dad's pulse to make sure his heart is in rhythm.  For the past few days, it has been teetering from 48-53 so when my office phone rang today and I saw Dad's name pop up on the Caller ID, I assumed it was Mom saying, "I'm calling the doctor" or "We are on our way to the ER".  Instead she said, "We are going to visit Aunt Sara".  Aunt Sara and Uncle John live about an hour away in Chesterfield, South Carolina. I was so happy that they were feeling good enough to make the trip.  Sidebar:  They had a great trip.

I also can't remember if I told you that for the second time, my eye doctor has told me that he can tell that my blood sugar, long term, is higher than it should be and he thinks I'm at risk for developing Diabetes.  Neither of my parents have Diabetes and my blood tests have always been normal so I was surprised.  I think he is on to something though because I have always dealt with low blood sugar spells from time to time, and I have to eat quickly.  Instead of just sitting around and waiting to get worse, I made an appointment with a Registered Dietitian.  I want to be proactive.  Coronary Artery Disease runs in my family so I might as well change my lifestyle now.

I did a lot of research and I found a lot of great local dietitians and nutritionists.  I decided to go with Samara, a Registered Dietitian.  She owns her own company called G & G Nutrition Co. (Grapefruit & Granola) and has her own podcast called, what else, The Grapefruit and Granola Podcast.  I have learned a lot just from listening to her podcasts and am looking forward to learning from her one on one.

I took these photos from her website.  Feel free to check out her website for some really great information or listen to her Podcast.

I'm learning already.  I've learned that "dietitian" is spelled with a "t" and not a "c".   Who knew?

  1. Proactive is good. I'm proud of you, Julie.

I must admit, I read through your post waiting for some comment on the painting. I seem to remember it from way back as something you were working on?

  2. You are right....the last time I posted it, it was much whiter than it is now. I'm getting it finished VERY SLOWLY. It is good stress relief though. The problem is that sometimes when I get started, I will spend 1 1/2 hours on it without thinking.

    1. Sounds like good therapy. I bought some coloring books that I haven't tried yet. If I ever finish the cloth dragon I started making, maybe I'll tackle them. And I just realized that the first line of the post refers to the painting. Guess I'm a little slow on the uptake.
