Boy did it rain today. It rained from the moment I woke up and is still raining now....10:30ish p.m. Hurricane Willa, a Pacific coast hurricane, brought rain to a large part of the U.S. and my area was included. This rainy weather has me a little down and very reflective so, pardon me if I share my heart for a moment.
This week has been a roller coaster. Tuesday, I took mom to see a cardiologist for the first time. Now that I think about it, this was the first time I have ever taken my mom to a doctor appointment. She sure has taken me over the years. Mom's cardiologist was wonderful...and cute too! We both really liked him a lot. He did an exam, gave her an ekg (she is still in A-fib), prescribed fluid pills to try to help with all of the swelling in her ankles and feet, and scheduled her for an echocardiogram. Today, I took her to get the Echo. We are scheduled for a visit on November 16th and will get the results then.
I have to admit that I feel rather scared. This is my mom that we are talking about. I looked at the Echo for about 20 seconds and then stared out the window for the rest of the exam. I didn't really know what a normal heart is supposed to look like and I didn't want to freak myself out. The first valve didn't look like what I think a valve is supposed to look like so I got scared. I've had 3 Echocardiograms myself. According to my doctors, I have a heart murmur. All I know is that they tell me not to worry about it.
Mom also fell and hurt her leg this week. It looks terrible and she is moving even slower. She just started taking blood thinners 4 weeks ago so I know that is a huge part of the reason why it looks so awful. After a year of getting used to Dad having health problems, I'm coming to terms with Mom not being as well either. It isn't easy when the two people that you love more than anything in this world are struggling. I go visit them every day after work to make sure that they are ok. I separate out their pills in pill boxes. I am starting to run a lot of their errands and do most of the driving for them. I always take them to their doctor appointments. Since they are becoming so numerous, my sister-in-law has been helping out with that as well. She took Dad to the urologist this week and is taking him for some surgery on the 6th. He is getting his throat "stretched" again as many people have to do. This is usually done at an outpatient center but since he has a stent now, it has to be done at the hospital in case something goes wrong.
Two of my favorite people had birthdays this week.... Happy Birthday Teresa and Miranda!
Daniel got a haircut! No picture yet....
My Dad has recently started "cooking". Here he is making a grilled cheese on Tuesday night. I took this photo for proof.
I wish you could have seen how much butter he used to make his grilled cheese. He also heated a can of tomato soup to go with it.
The dogs enjoyed another lazy week.
Dollar Bill Spencer got pushed off of a balcony this week on Bold & Beautiful. I took this picture for Wendy - she works next door and usually spends her lunch watching the soaps with Jim (my boss) and I. She was in Atlanta for a conference this week so I sent her a picture of what she missed.
Poor Bill. This is the second time someone has tried to kill him this year. He landed pretty well except that one of his shoes came off. Don't worry too much about Bill...he opened his eyes today when Brooke came to visit him. I'm pretty sure he will make another full recovery.
Lorraine, I thought of another commercial that I hate. I mean I HATE. That being said, whoever wrote it is brilliant because everyone knows the telephone # for J.G. Wentworth. This commercial makes me want to physically hurt people.
I do love however, these commercials. I have to do the motions when one comes on.
I know you are singing it.

I can relate to how you feel taking your parents to doctor's visits. I went through that, too, although not with Mom because I was living in PA when she got sick. Dad more than made up for it--he was a handful. Just hang in there, Julie. You can do it. Your folks are lucky to have you living nearby. And Yay! for your Dad taking up cooking. It may be just a cheese sandwich, but every chef has to start somewhere.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have commercials for JG Wentworth. Is the firm local to your area? The last two commercials, no matter how catchy the tunes, activate my gag reflex.
J G Wentworth is national. My guess is that you don't watch any of the shows that these commercials target. That's a good thing! I hadn't seen them in a while but, they have recently started coming on during the Young and the Restless. UGH. The Pepto Bismol commercials are so stupid that they make me laugh. At work, Jim and I try to dance along with the motions.....the diarrhea move is the most fun. Next time you see it, imagine me and Jim doing the moves at work.
ReplyDeleteYou're right that I don't watch soaps. What does it say about me that most of the commercials I see seem to target people with diseases? I sit there sometimes and ask myself: What is that? Should I ask my MD? It's enough to make people crazy.
DeleteAll I need now is to see the Pepto Bismol ad again and picture you and Jim doing the moves. :D
