It's A Sunshine Day

Sunday, January 6, 2019

Remember that Brady Bunch song?  Well, we finally saw the sun here in Carolina this weekend and it was glorious.  It was a beautiful weekend of sunshine and 68 degree temps.  We have also gained 17 minutes of sunshine at the end of the day.  The sun now sets at 5:27 p.m.  The earliest the sun set for us was 5:10 p.m. on December 6th.

I'd like to say that Balto enjoyed the sunshine but, he walked outside and sat on the steps with Scott, Blossom and me for 5 minutes.  He turned around, walked inside the house and jumped on the couch in front of the Golden Girls on TV.  No joke.

It was a typical weekend at my parents' house.  Dad took a nap...or several.

Daniel built something.  He's always building something.  He kept telling me that there was an antenna on top.  He said, "If I had 4 batteries then the (section in the middle) would move.  You may or may not be able to see the wires hooked up.  I said, "I don't think it would Daniel".  Dad said, "I don't think it would either".  Daniel said, "Well, then I'm sad".  I said, "Why are you sad?" He said, "Because I'm the worst builder in the world".

Both of the neighbors' cats showed up at Mom's door asking for food.  One of them pretty much lives there but, its sibling made a visit tonight.  Of course Mom fed them.

I had an unexpected visitor Saturday night while Kevin and Scott went to supper.  Laura hung out with me for a couple of hours.

The only thing I could think of to fix for supper was Hamburger Helper Cheeseburger Macaroni.  Turns out, Laura loved it.  She ate the macaroni first and then beef.

Laura turned every light in my house on and off, locked my bathroom door from the inside, and we spent the rest of the night watching Little Baby Bum videos on Netflix.  All in all, it was a good night.  Today, after we finished learning about Moses in Sunday School, Laura worked on tracing her letters. I bribe her with M&M's.

Scott received his Ancestry DNA results today and they are almost identical to mine.  Here are mine:

Scott's results had 2% France and 1% Native American.

While on the website, I noticed that I could pay $9 and they would give me more information about my DNA.  It was spot on.  It told me that I had a cleft chin, no freckles, blue eyes (mine are blue-green), my index finger in longer than my ring finger (turns out it is!) and several other things. One thing I'm excited to test is that it told me is that I carry the gene that gives you an aversion to cilantro.  Supposedly, I shouldn't like it and I'm going to find out.  It also said that I'm very sensitive to sweet things. That is very true!

Another neat feature is that it now tells you how much DNA you share with your matches.  Turns out, my first cousin, Annette, and I share a lot more DNA than I do with my first cousin, Angela.  Annette is the daughter of my Dad's brother, Coy.  Angela is the daughter of Dad's sister, Jean.

Sleep well, Blossom.  Tomorrow is Monday.

  1. Your dogs are such couch potatoes. I love it!

I did Ancestry DNA, too. My pie chart consisted of a solid yellow circle. Turns out I'm 100% France. Which is weird, because I did National Geographic's Genographic Project last year and my results there were very different. I shouldn't be surprised because Genographic focuses on ancient times while Ancestry's focus is modern. I bought Ancestry's extra features package, too. They were wrong on about half the items. I'll have to look at it again because I don't remember which ones.

    1. Wow; 100% France! That is crazy!!! I didn't test for any "France" which makes sense b/c I can trace my roots back to the 1500s and I can't find any French in me that way either. I'm sure there has to be some somewhere in me. My DNA matched up w/ my "tree" exactly. I still need to eat Cilantro to see if my other results were 100%....so far they are.

    3. You can always do the National Geographic Geno 2.0 DNA test. If there's any French deep in your Ancestry it will turn up there. My deep ancestry turned up everything but the kitchen sink--even Neanderthal! I need to check my results again to see if anything has changed, seeing as NatGeo has almost 100,000 more participants now than it did last year.

I haven't tried Cilantro so I don't know if I like it or not. I need to do that sometime to see if that one was accurate.
